UMAMI: the fifth taste

One of the significant type of sense is Taste. Especially for people who loves to eat like me. But did you know that aside from the 4 basic taste that we were taught in grade school and are familiar with, [ SWEETNESS, SALTINESS, BITTERNESS, and SOURNESS ] there is another which the Japanese proposed.and believed. The new taste sensation and the fifth primary element of taste is called UMAMI.

|According to Wikipedia] Umami is a Japanese word meaning "savory" or "deliciousness" and thus applies to the sensation of savoriness, specifically to the detection of the natural amino acid, glutamic acid or glutamates common in meats, cheese and other protein-heavy foods. The action of umami receptors explains why foods treated with monosodium glutamate(MSG) often taste "heartier". It is also describes as meaty and brothy.

[According to Phil Star] The "UM" factor is found all over the Filipino cuisine like adobo,sinigang,sisig,nilaga and tinola. Parmesan cheese is said to be one of the most glutamate -rich foods,while mushrooms, particulartly shitake,contains both glutamate ans guanylate. The fermentation process in making fish sauce or patis as well as soy sauce breaks down proteins,releasing flavorful glutamate.

And for a more familiar description. Umami is vetsin flavored food.

I have a confession to make. Most of my pictures are weird looking because i have a hard time smiling, and an awkward feeling each time the camera snaps at me. I'm not comfortable bein in the scene. So if you find most of my pictures something like this one..most likely its a good shot.

Mga kabisyo!! nka Love ka pa ba?

I was contemplating on making a 2d courtyard for my take home project, unfortunately i couldn't visualize the perfect cg. Instead, i pondered on the ultimate cliche.... What is Love? Cuz i really have the tendency to over accentuate the L word. Now that i'm roughly a mature person and in my 27th year as an earthling. I would like to define it as maturely as possible.

I read somewhere that Love is not an emotion but a decision. On the other hand, Love is in fact an emotion during the early stage. When you still like to think its all romantic and sweet,but after a while when the relationship gets bumpy and crude, We begin to ask ourselves if we are willing to work things out. There are those who leave and look for someone who fits right into their current shape and some stays for the sake of the years they've bonded together. Love can shape us into the form that befits our loved ones. We unconsciously adjust even if we don't like to. Therefore Love manifests...there are so many eloquent explanation, But for me Love is effortlessly seeing the imperfect person perfectly. You don't love someone for their looks, their clothes or physical attributes but because they can sing the song only you can hear and that you become the person you want to be when you are with them...

There were moments when i thought i had everything figured out. That like in movies, its better to be moving ahead and living a life with less complications because we know pretty much how life plays out. But each time i take my step away , i only find myself coming back.

Post Year of the Rat parody

Mickey mouse is back in business after the Chinese New year celebration last week.
Which makes me ask the difference between a mouse and a rat. Technically Mickey is a mouse and not a rat, otherwise if he was a rat then he will be Mickey rat.. which is relatively right. Right?

True Love

A few days more and V day is in the air. A day to cherish the love or the feeling of being in love. To others, Valentines day is like any other Thursday. But I was bein romanticistic, ika nga may mga puso sa aking mga mata. I was so ready to set the mood of bein in love this week.like listening to the best romantic songs. Yesterday though, my friends invited me to join the Cancer Warrior foundation Awareness at Glorieta. It wasn't really a hands on activity, we just came, mainly to support the founder/organizer. We weren't really that involved, pero upon seeing the photo panels which showed kids with cancer, my heart quickly breaks for them, although my case wasn't cancer, i know the agony of being in severe physical and emotional pain. If only i have the super power of curing all of this cancer stricken kids, i would.
The truth is, there is far more beyond the rising technology and new age beliefs or the concept of super power. ..And as i've witnessed, i still have this reverberating confidence in God's power to heal. Almost instantly, narealize ko na ang valentines pala ay hindi lang araw para sa mga nakakakilig o nakakinlove na bagay, But a reminder as well. That we are here to Help save lives, build a better future and to keep their hopes alive.
And that we may all be reminded that True Love is living a selfless life in this selfish world.

Mommy's Bithday plus more

Yesterday was atypical. Our house was in a festive mood [not because of the dragon dancers], and sights of hustling in the kitchen was evident. Its Mommy's birthday. She had so many guests and i had so much to eat. So its pretty much like stuffing my tummy with everything on the table. But for my mom, I just want to thank her for being not just a super but the Mega Mom that she is to us.

Early that morning,i was busy finishing an offline cg for a project. which i emailed around 12. That Afternoon, i argued with my bestfriend, cuz we love to argue for no apparent reason. But nevertheless it was loads of fun walking around Quezon city,eating in a chinese resto and the old school ice cream parlor was great. That same night, my cousins came over to celebrate. Eating made me very sleepy so i woke up 3pm today. Which is why i'm starting the day a little later than the usual.

Year of the Rat and symptoms of heart attack

Chinese new year is a few days from now,and im welcoming the Year of the rat by getting a new mouse. Not a hamster or anything of that species. I bought a new mouse for my computer cuz there are times when i feel someone from the other side of the portal controls my mouse whenever i use it. In addition to my new mouse is a new headset for my hydrocephalic head and another thumb drive.

Raks,Gara and i had dinner at our favorite resto at Walter mart. We usually order the same thing when we get to visit but this time, we're adventurous enough to try some thing new from their selection. Gara pretty much had the same thing for the last 2 years. I really had nothing bad to say about this resto. They have consistently served the type of meals which you'll go back for. Unfortunately after a few minutes, we began to feel uncomfortable...masakit na batok at mejo parang nakakahilo..Its definately not a sanitary issue. who wouldn't feel the symptoms of heart attack when you eat Patatim, Aligue and Chorizo?

Musically Betty

Last week i was able to watch the critically acclaimed Film adaptation of Sweeney Todd. It was of course dark as Tim Burton's scruffy facial hair. Morbid and superfluous. But i can never question the creative approach as far as the director's treatment is concerned. Plus the actors were also the same people you see in Harry Potter. No! its not that i don't like the film, i just have nothing else to say aside from its likeness to other Burton Films. As a matter of fact, I like the film because they were singing pleasantly despite its gruesome plot. Making it like a bloody version of Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Another musical thing about me is my fondness of singing these days. Which makes it rational for me to interject a quote saying that if there weren't music, then life would be a mistake..thats according to Nietzsche. You see, Aside from dancing at my mom's birthday celebration I also currently love listening to sweet songs like Collide by Howie day, Stolen by Dashboard confessional, Sharing the night together by Elliot Yamin and Juno's soundtrack was surprisingly fun.specially Anyone else but you by The molded peaches.

Speaking of my favorite songs, Last night i heard of this opm song na mayroong nakkaintrigang lyrics. Kahit madaling araw na, pinilit kong makaproduce ng isang maikli at rough na renditon ng kantang pinamagatang: I love you 123 by Mom's cake.

Bleu des Basques Brebis - is an artisan sheep’s milk blue cheese made in the Pyrenées mountains, a region of the French Basque country (near the border of Portugal.) These verdant hills here are full of the wildflowers and fresh grass that give the milk its complexity, subtlety, and lightness.

Crottin de Champcol - This is a simple pasteurized goat cheese from the Loire. (Did you know that "Crottin" in French means dung as in manure? The explanation is that old "Crottin" gets harder and browner and tends to look like horse dung or dung in general.)

Tome de Savoie - often made with skim milk after the cream has been used to make butter. It is a pleasant and unpretentious cheese with an approachable, mild flavor. This typical cheese from the Alps was originally made as a result to the lack of milk used for the Beaufort or other Gruyeres. They are produced in large flat wheels.

Valençay - named after a town in central France, it is shaped like a pyramid with the top cut off. Originally, the shape was perfectly pyramidal. Legend says...coming back from a calamitous campaign in Egypt, Napoléon stopped in Valençay. He saw the cheese and with anger took his sword to chop the top off. Valencay has a soft and delicate taste with nutty flavor.

Anyway, I don't know if its just me or its same with most of you, but i find these days kinda slow moving. Even if i have so much things to do, theres this subtle boredom in my head. Or perhaps something in me changed without me knowing it. I'm really ain't sure?? I got my self stuck into watching the series House Md, then, I am also into viewing some VFX reels from Vancouver Film school. I'm into so many things, yknow'. but I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else..But you.
Thats how cheesy i could get in boring times like this. [cheese is like a spoiled milk by the way]
